Highbury Primary School

Safeguarding

Highbury Primary School and Nursery are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We recognise that being a young person makes them vulnerable. We aim to ensure that the actions of any adult in the context of the work carried out by the organisation are transparent and safeguard and promote the welfare of all young people. Everyone within our schools who comes into contact with children and families has a role to play.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:

  • Protecting children from maltreatment
  • Preventing impairment of children’s health or development
  • Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
  • Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes

Child protection is a part of safeguarding and promoting welfare. This refers to the activity that is undertaken to protect specific children who are suffering, or are likely to suffer significant harm.

What should I do if I have a concern about a child?

The Headteacher, Mrs Watson is the Designated Safeguarding Lead. Rebecca Frost is the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. If you have any concerns about the safety or wellbeing of any child please speak to either of the above.

  • email mash@portsmouthcc.gov.uk
  • at all other times, phone the out-of-hours service on 0300 555 1373
