Highbury Primary School

Eco council

The Eco Council plays a valuable role throughout the school. Each class elects two members from each class and they meet every two weeks to discuss key issues and projects. They promote saving energy in the classrooms by checking lights are turned off at break and lunch time.

They also complete health and safety audits by checking cloakrooms are clear. They organised campaigns on promoting a litter free environment by monitoring the school grounds and are involved in litter picks. In the Autumn term, they organised a Litter poster competition for the whole school, which was set as a homework project. The winning designs were displayed in the school.

In outdoor learning activities, the children have been involved in improving areas of the school grounds e.g. wild meadow area, tree planting and growing vegetables.
