Summer Reading Challenges
This year, we had a fantastic response to the Highbury Summer Reading Challenge, which incorporated the Library Summer Reading Challenge. A whopping
74 pupils signed up for the Summer Reading Challenge, with 49 going on to complete it by reading 6 books. That’s over four times as many as last year! A huge well done to all those who took part. Participants received a certificate and a special bookmark to reward their efforts.
We use a reading programme called Bug Club in our school. This is a finely levelled reading scheme, which ensures that all children can find books at exactly the right level for them in school. What’s more, each child can also access a personalised selection of books online, chosen specially for them by their class teacher.
This means that if you have an internet connection, your child can read online versions of Bug Club books at the right level for them, for FREE!
Your child’s login details can be found in their reading diary. Once logged in, go to the My Stuff’ section, which contains a selection of books suitable for them to read. When your child has read a book, it will move to the ‘Library’ section so it can be enjoyed again at any time.
There are also quick quiz questions to try, just click on the bug icon when you see it in any Bug Club book online. If your child answers all the quiz questions in a book, he or she will earn ‘ActiveLearn coins’, which can be used to ‘buy’ rewards on the website safely without spending any real money.
Better still, the Bug Club website has recently been updated so that it is now fully accessible on a PC, laptop, iPad or an android tablet through your usual web browser.
Just click on the Bug Club logo at the top of the page to enter your child’s personal login details, or go to www.activelearnprimary.co.uk
